About Dr. Richard Rivera
Family Medicine Physician
Dr. Rivera is a Colorado native born in Sterling and a long-standing family practice physician dedicated to improving access to care. After serving as a U.S. Navy hospital corpsman, where he provided broad clinical care in a high-demand setting, he pursued his education at Southern Colorado State College before being accepted to Harvard Medical School. He completed his MD in three years and earned a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Rivera completed family medicine training in Arizona after beginning his residency in San Francisco. He then returned to Pueblo with a vision to expand community-based healthcare, successfully developing a Community Health Center program that grew rapidly to serve tens of thousands of patients and became a nationally recognized model for patient-centered care.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rivera has been committed to healthcare innovation, including developing award-winning healthcare technology and advocating for system-wide reform. Over more than 50 years of practice, his programs have delivered over 1.6 million patient encounters and thousands of births in the Pueblo community.
As he transitions toward retirement, Dr. Rivera is proud to partner with Health Solutions, continuing his legacy of delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
