Breaking Down GLP-1 Facts with Health Solutions Experts

Family Medicine offers solutions for weight loss

Whether you’re scrolling through Instagram or hitting a commercial break on a streaming app, it can feel like ads for GLP-1 weight loss options are everywhere. With so many choices on the market, how do you know what’s safe and effective?

Meet the experts behind the Weight Loss Center at Health Solutions.

GLP Facts

At Health Solutions, you can find local, award-winning, safe, and effective options for kickstarting a healthier lifestyle. The clinic, recognized this year as the Best Weight Loss Clinic in Pueblo, offers access to weight loss medication and care provided by our compassionate providers.

“The reason it’s won awards is that we have a team of clinicians who are very conscientious and reliable in the care they provide to patients,” said Anne Tourney, an RN care coordinator at Health Solutions Family Medicine at Perry Hall. “When you seek that care from doctors and nurse practitioners in your community, you know you are dealing with people who are very involved and engaged with their patients.”

What is a GLP-1?

The weight loss clinic currently offers access to compounded Semaglutide, a GLP-1 medication, and vitamin B12.

Users find there’s some serious science behind GLP-1 medications. GLP-1 receptor agonists mimic a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. They stimulate insulin release when blood sugar is high, slow stomach emptying, and increase feelings of fullness and reduce cravings. Learn more about the medication.

In the compounded version offered at Health Solutions, the addition of vitamin B12 offers users extra energy.

Patients who pair the medication with diet changes and exercise see the most results, Tourney said.

“What the medication does is it provides additional energy, appetite control, and slows down digestion so that you have that extra help in maintaining and lowering your weight,” she said.

How Appointments Work at Health Solutions

When you’re ready to begin, you’ll receive support from a Health Solutions provider as they oversee your prescription. Those who want to access services at the clinic do not need to establish primary care with Health Solutions. These visits will focus solely on weight loss.

For the initial appointment, you can start via telehealth or choose to be seen in person at one of our two locations, Health Solutions Family Medicine at Montebello or Perry Hall.

Follow-ups will occur every 1-3 months, depending on health history. Some patients may require a closer 1-month follow-up. You can choose to follow up exclusively via telehealth, in person, or a combination of both in-person and telehealth.

When FDA-approved medications such as Wegovy® or Mounjaro® are not clinically appropriate or have not produced the desired results, Health Solutions Weight Loss Clinic may offer alternative treatment options. In collaboration with a licensed compounding pharmacy, Belmar Pharmacy, we provide access to compounded semaglutide with vitamin B12.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are prepared by a licensed pharmacy to meet the specific needs of an individual patient pursuant to a valid prescription. The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality. Treatment decisions are made by our licensed medical providers based on individual patient evaluation.
